NAINA Concept Introduced — Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) concept introduced to plan systematic development around the upcoming Navi Mumbai Airport region.

2017

MTHL Project Initiated — Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (Atal Setu) mega infrastructure project initiated by MMRDA to connect Mumbai and Navi Mumbai with a direct sea link.

2024

Atal Setu Inaugurated (Jan 2024) — Atal Setu opened, providing direct connectivity between Mumbai and Nhava Sheva / Uran region, cutting travel time to under 20 minutes.

Oct 2024

KSC New Town Officially Notified — Maharashtra Government officially notified KSC New Town (323.44 sq km, 124 villages) and appointed MMRDA as New Town Development Authority under Section 113 of MR&TP Act 1966.

2025

Navi Mumbai Airport Phase-1 Operational — Navi Mumbai International Airport Phase-1 commenced operations including domestic flights and cargo handling.

Phase 1

Urbanisation Zone

The first phase of KSC New Town is identified as the primary urban development zone — expected to accommodate planned residential townships, commercial districts, logistics hubs, institutional development and mixed-use urban infrastructure.

The objective of Phase-1 is to establish a strong urban core near the Navi Mumbai Airport and Atal Setu connectivity corridor — the highest priority land appreciation zone.

Phase 2

Green Zone / Future Expansion

The second phase currently remains designated as a controlled green zone to preserve environmental balance and regulate future expansion of the city.

This zone may gradually transition into planned development areas depending on infrastructure growth and population demand — maintaining green buffers for sustainable urban growth and environmental protection.
